Coyotes targeted Ryan White for versatility

As the reigning Stanley Cup champions, the Penguins are the current model to beat, and Coyotes General Manager John Chayka has kept Pittsburgh’s lineup in mind while revamping the roster this summer.

What stood out to him was the efficiency of the Penguins' fourth line, a unit that offered versatility in being able to chip in secondary scoring and protect leads.

The Coyotes targeted those attributes in free agency and found them in one player – forward Ryan White.

“We were looking to give Tip (coach Dave Tippett) some options and create a line that could bring a lot of energy and can bring a specific playing card to the table, and that’s what we felt by adding Ryan,” Chayka said.
